Complexity as a temple of worship
Ryan Tomayko thinks IBM is full of it, when it comes to J2EE v. LAMP applications. I agree. Technology people suck, especially those with something to sell.
No, I hate to say it, but they do. They worship, in general, at the temple of complexity for its own sake. For the sake of making themselves look impressive. For the sake of making it look hard. This stuff, most of it anyway, is easy. At least 95% of it is child’s play, but we make it look hard. Why? Because it lets us sell our time and pretend we’re adding value, when often we’re just adding complexity. Often the two are diametrically opposed.
