DavÃd Garza : Overdub
Earlier this year, I mentioned that DavÃd Garza had put up some free music, and he’s done it again. I wanted to take this opportunity to review his most recent album, Overdub, which came out in 2001.
More polished than any of his earlier efforts, due largely to a more “traditional” production process, Overdub represents the perfect blending of Dah-veed’s amazing tenor voice (with flashy vibrato) with his smart, but witty song writing. Unlike some earlier work, which veered into the punk realm, this album blends a lot of his punk influences, with the obvious Prince, Led Zepplin and even folk tendencies together into a collection of brilliantly crafted songs.
It is unfortunate that “mainstream radio” is so pre-programmed, digested and sanitized that it can not begin to understand where to put many talented artists, DavÃd among them. This means that someone who honestly deserves to have a lot of exposure is relegated to the “singer/songwriter” section of the world, and will likely only spin on the most dedicated of music fans’ systems.
