Succombing to Firefox
I really want to keep using Safari, truly I do, but of late, I’ve been having more and more issues with its performance and bizarre 100% CPU utilization issues with websites like Orbitz. That, combined with my growing use of del.icio.us has driven me to start using Firefox. In order to make Firefox more acceptable on my desktop, I’ve added the following things:
- Pinstripe theme : Prettier than the default
- del.icio.us plugin : Bookmarking yumminess
- Fission plugin : provides a progress bar integrated into the address bar, a’la Safari
- Stop-or-Reload button plugin : Reduces wasted screen real-estate by having the button alternate between stop and reload depending on context
Other things I use all the time for various activities:
- Selenium IDE : User interface testing made easy
- Tamper Data : Love to play with those forms and headers
- FireBug : Uber-web-development gadgetry
Yes, I’ve looked at Camino and while I think it’s prettier, I use a bunch of plugins for Firefox that are written in XUL, and therefore not useful in Camino. If they could convert XUL into the pretty Cocoa bits, I’d love that, since it seems to just work smoother.
