Apple annoyances

I’m generally a pretty happy camper with my MacBook Pro, but a while back, when getting something else repaired (i.e. dead fans), they broke Bluetooth. I finally sent it back in to get repaired, and it got returned in about 72 hours. That’s awesome. But when I opened the box, there’s my 2 1GB SO-DIMMs sitting there and a note basically saying that they were the cause of the problem.

Now, never mind that they also replaced the entire Bluetooth assembly, cables and everything. Never mind that I’ve had that memory in there for over a year without any problems. Never mind that everything except Bluetooth was fine. Never mind that 3 different “Geniuses” had looked at the machine and never once mentioned the memory. No, instead, Apple’s repair people took it out, and shipped me back a non-functioning machine. So, to even find out if the repair worked I had to find a microscopic screwdriver and put them back in.

Imagine, with the 2 SO-DIMMs in, it works great now. Guess they just do this as a matter of standard procedure. Idiots.

Known issue. Apple support does not like to support Macs that include RAM you didn’t buy from them. A generally suggested mechanism for dealing with Apple support is to put your stock RAM back in before sending the unit back.

Except for those of us who SELL the old memory because it seems stupid to keep it sitting around.
