I spy
I spy a traitor politician John McCain doing his best to be Emperor Palpatine Bush III:
If elected president, Senator John McCain would reserve the right to run his own warrantless wiretapping program against Americans, based on the theory that the president’s wartime powers trump federal criminal statutes and court oversight, according to a statement released by his campaign Monday.
This man is not to be trusted with a Tinkertoy, much less the Constitution.

The trouble is that the Patriot Act powers continue to exist no matter which party’s candidate sits in office. I expect it will be hard for a sitting president to resist using whatever powers are available. The Patriot Act needs to go away.

well, of course “the president’s wartime powers trump federal criminal statutes and court oversight”. and just as soon as CONGRESS actually makes a formal declaration of war against our current enemy, the president can have all of the warrantless wiretapping that he wants.
