FDA, you suck
Since I left Austin, one of the business I miss most is Good Flow Juice Company. They were a small local company that supplied very fresh juices that were unpasteurized to local restaurants and some of the more crunchy-granola grocery stores. Their product was oustanding quality, and more importantly tasted exactly like what you think it should, without that cooked metallic aftertaste of the mass-market brands.
Well, it seems finally the FDA has taken legal action against them, demanding they pasteurize their product, even though it has a big warning label on it that it’s unpasteurized and they make deliveries every day—sometimes multiple times per day.
Seriously, I’m beginning to think in the food world that the FDA is more dangerous than helpful. Have all the mercury you want, but don’t you dare drink fresh-squeezed orange juice. Bunch of tools. The warning label was more than enough.

I agree. Like most government agencies, the FDA has no common sense. I’ve been buying GoodFlow juice for a long time and never once have I become ill. In fact, every time I get a cold or something, I buy a lot of Good Flow juice to help boost my immune system and get over the illness quicker. The FDA needs to stop bullying small business and let the consumer decide if they want to buy fresh raw juice, milk or almonds. Yes FDA, you suck!
Dammit, you’re falling into the trap laid for you by the current gang-of-crooks, the idea that because they’ve been successful at making government oversight completely incompetent, ineffective, and good for nothing but interfering with those businesses that they aren’t friendly with by appointing political hacks to sinecures and slashing their budgets, that heck, why have these agencies at all?
It’s a trick. Don’t fall for it. The FDA, USDA, OSHA, and so on have serious roles to play.
There is a serious role to play, however protecting people from natural products is not one of them. As I said, I have no problem with the warning label, as there is a minor risk to people with immune issues—something the label made very clear—however taking away choices where the choice is healthy for most people is not something the government should be doing. It’s not like it had melamine in it.
Ok, we’re in basic agreement, then.
Even so, I don’t think the situation has yet reached the point where the FDA does more harm than good (which would imply that things would get better if the FDA was shut down).

Oh no! Welp, I’m glad I got a chance to try the Flow when it was Good. ;)
